Frequently asked questions
The answers below cover the French framework for online sports betting and the way this publication works.
Regulatory framework
4How can I check that an operator is licensed in France?
An authorised operator holds a licence issued by the Autorité nationale des jeux. The public register is available on anj.fr, and every licence is the subject of a decision published in the Journal officiel. On each review we reproduce the licence number and the link to the original decision.
What does a licence number such as 0001-PS-2025-09-08-AGR-03 mean?
The first block identifies the operator, the two letters state the authorised category — PS for sports betting — the date is the effective date of the licence, and the final block is the renewal rank. A sports betting licence is granted for five years and is renewable.
Can a licensed operator offer anything other than sports betting?
Only if it holds a separate licence for each category. The categories open to competition in France are sports betting, horse race betting and poker circles. Each category is covered by its own decision.
Are winnings taxable in France?
For a private bettor, sports betting winnings are not subject to income tax. Levies are paid upstream by the operator on the stakes it collects. This is general information and does not replace personalised tax advice.
Account and withdrawals
3Why must my identity be verified?
Identity verification is required by French regulation: it allows age to be checked, confirms the identity of the account holder and applies anti-money-laundering obligations. A valid identity document and a recent proof of address are usually enough.
How long does a withdrawal take?
At both brands tracked, the announced delay ranges from 24 to 72 working hours depending on the payment method. The first withdrawal is often the longest because it triggers full account verification. Times are shown on each review.
Can I open an account from abroad?
A French licence covers the offer made from the domain named in the decision, aimed at people located in France. From another country, local regulation applies. Check before registering.
Protection and age
3What is the age limit?
Online sports betting is strictly forbidden to anyone under 18. Age is verified when the account is opened, and this publication is itself restricted to adults.
Where can I turn if I am struggling?
Joueurs Info Service offers free, anonymous and confidential support on 09 74 75 13 13, every day from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m., plus an online chat. You can also request voluntary exclusion from the Autorité nationale des jeux, which then applies to every licensed operator.
How do I limit my spending?
Every licensed operator must offer deposit and stake limits, along with access to a full history of account activity. Set those limits before the first stake rather than after a loss, and treat any amount staked as already spent.
This publication
4How is this website funded?
By referring traffic to the operators covered. When a reader follows a visit link and opens an account, the editorial desk may receive remuneration. That remuneration is identical whichever brand is chosen, depends on no betting outcome and plays no part in the ratings. Details are on the Disclosure page.
Can ratings be bought?
No. No brand can buy a rating, a position in the comparison or the removal of a weakness. The five criteria are recorded in the same way for every brand tracked.
Can I post a review on this website?
No. This publication accepts no reader-submitted content: no comments, no reviews, no files. Every text is written and approved by the editorial desk, which guarantees that no unmoderated content is ever served.
How often are the reviews updated?
Odds readings are weekly. Regulatory data is re-checked whenever a new decision of the Autorité nationale des jeux is published, and at minimum once a quarter. The update date appears at the foot of each review.
